Day of the Dead Bouquet Packaging

Overview

Day of the Dead or “Dia de Los Muertos” is a very popular holiday in Mexico in which elaborate altars are constructed and decorated with pictures of loved ones, Calavera, and flowers. The objective was to create a design that would target the fresh flower and potted plant market in the demographics that celebrate this holiday. The design also needed to work as a fill-in Halloween packaging option for a secondary target audience who didn’t celebrate Dia de Los Muertos.

The Calavera or “Sugar Skulls” that decorate this sleeve is a very iconic symbol of this holiday. Typically, the Calavera are very colorful, but due to printing press limitations I was challenged to use only two colors for this design.

I had to make sure the skull design was seamless so there was no obvious line where the pattern started or ended. The design also needed to be versatile enough to work on a fresh flower sleeve as well as a prefolded potted plant cover.
